    procommenter , you have no idea what you are talking about. Bi-polar disorder is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Various medications such as lithium, depakote and others are very effective in treating this imbalance. I speak from personal experience. For someone with bi-polar cocaine, alcohol, caffeine, and other chemicals ingested will certainly exacerbate the disorder, but they have nothing whatsoever to do with the genetic basis.
