manic depression and bipolar? Question for people that take the drug Geodon for Bipolar Disorder 1 or 2?

Not that I know of, but there are certain groups that psychiatrists can apply to become affiliates of. The National Institute for Mental Health does a lot of research on bipolar disorder.

Treating bipolar isn't all about the doctor. Its up to the patient to take his/her meds as prescribed and attend weekly therapy sessions to change their behaviors. Not every medication works for every case, what works for me, may not work for you and vice versa. Some cases require a cocktail of different meds to treat their symptoms appropriately, its all about finding the right mix, which takes time.

Luckily for me, like the poster below me, I take Lamictal and it has worked wonderfully for me as well. But my cousin, who has Type I, had no luck with Lamictal, and is on a variety of medications, and still, last month attempted suicide. She's been in and out of jail her entire life, is battling a heroin addiction from attempting to self medicate….its frustrating to watch, and I almost feel guilty for having such wonderful results.

yeah to believe in God is a good thing….but it's not the only thing you should do. very religious people think that all you need is God. you don't need medicine. obviously you need it, you're sinful. but i won't get into how i hate when people say that.

you need to go to a psychiatrist ASAP. talk about Lamictal….i have been taking it for a year and one month [i celebrated last month because i am just...proud of myself for being so stable.] and it's the only medicine i needed, no trial and error crap. there's zero weight gain, it's for long term use…it doesn't make you sick or zombie-like like Lithium does.

get into therapy for a few months, if you feel like you need more time with the therapist, feel free to go as long as you want.

maybe get into a Karate or Yoga class. go to a hobby lobby/ben franklin/michaels like store and maybe take up
painting, sculpting, or drawing…or building stuff!
start a garden maybe. pretty flowers all over the place.

or take up the guitar, keyboard, any musical instrument!
maybe join a choir! music is the safest outlet for people to go to when they are in pain.

you can do it….it just takes commitment, support from family and friends, strength, and determination.

good luck! you can do it!
