			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There&#8217;s an ancient question that humans have asked themselves since they first left the caves and moved into their new mud and brick huts somewhere in Mesopotamia; why do we collect so much stuff? It&#8217;s not easy to answer and it may have much to do with ancient instinct, but it isn&#8217;t really that bad. It&#8217;s more of a curiosity these days than anything else.</p>
<p> Consider that old <a href="http://www.convectionoven.biz/black-decker-fc350-infrawave-speed-cooking-countertop-oven-with-rotisserie">rotisserie oven</a> that we got at our wedding reception years ago. We bought a new one a couple years back in the old one went down into the basement on the theory that we might need that second oven should the Apocalypse occur and the four Horsemen need a quick meal or some hospitality, right?</p>
<p> Of course, we&#8217;d probably be running for the hills should we even think that a minor earthquake was going to happen, let alone the Apocalypse, so why not put that on a for sale at a consignment shop or hold a garage sale and find somebody else out there who wants to cook up succulent and tasty chicken and the like?</p>
<p> At any rate, we can probably make quite a bit of money from many items that we&#8217;re no longer using, including the <a href="http://www.foodprocessormart.com">Hamilton Beach food processor</a> that we replaced with a new Hamilton Beach product sometime ago. Why it&#8217;s down in the basement gathering dust we cannot say, but with all the kids gone and only us two in the home, needing two food processors probably isn&#8217;t really something that&#8217;s going to pop up, right?</p>
<p> And it seems that old baby items are the biggest culprits when it comes to hanging around for no good purpose. And it could be a very good idea to either resell it or give it to a young couple of limited means who could put it to use in watching over their own baby, correct?</p>

It&#8217;s a fact that the only people who might want to use it have grown up and moved away to college, so maybe it might be smart to give it to some other children, what do you think?</p>
<p> At any rate, the things we collect in our life need to be divided into the things that are really important to us and are needed and the things that we just haven&#8217;t bothered putting up for sale out in front of the garage or have given away to others who can get far more use from it than we are currently. And unless the Apocalypse is going to happen tomorrow, maybe that oven can go elsewhere?</p>

<p> First, when a person was exposed to a situation that doesn&#8217;t typically cause anxiety that sets off a panic attack. Washing the dishes, going to the market or watching a movie are some of the examples of ordinary situations. The panic attack must also not be triggered by a situation where the person was the center of attention, such as a public speaking event, a birthday party, or other situations where they were the focus of a crowd.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In our past discussions we have looked deeper in to the true issue of <a href="http://addadhdhelp.com/ADHD_Test.html">ADD/ADHD</a><br /> misdiagnosis. The bottom line of much of that was said is that it is very important to<br /> research alternative explanations for ‘ADD like symptoms’ before meekly accepting a<br /> diagnosis. This is because it is, sadly, often the case that those making a positive<br /> results have something to get from it.There are a few instances in which ADD/ADHD has been misapplied to a child because of an extreme cause such as a bacterial infection that causes similar behavior which we will discuss in more depth next week. Other situations have a root cause that is much more boring. This is perhaps nowhere more true than in the case of the role of sleep (or rather the lack thereof) on general health and behavior. Throughout the centuries mothers have been telling us how their children&#8217;s behavior has gotten worse for every hour of sleep that they loose. It turns out that modern science is confirming this bit ‘folk wisdom’.</p>
<p> One of the most interesting things that came out of the research was how the lack of sleep actually impacts those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. The Finnish nationa lInstitute of Health and Welfare along with the Univeristy of Helsinki ran the research. Under the microscope were the sleeping patterns and the behavior of 280 healthy seven and eight year olds. The simple question was the following: Are healthy children who get too little sleep more likely to display the symptoms generally associated with ADD/ADHD? The simple answer: Absolutely!</p>
<p> Researchers measured the sleeping patterns of the children who participated in the study in two ways, one subjective and the other objective. In an effort to be subjective the parents completed a list of questions concerning their child&#8217;s sleep patterns on a normal day; for a week the child&#8217;s sleep patterns were watched and noted to complete the testing.This was accomplished by having them wear montiors to measure their movement to see how long they really rested.</p>
<p> Parents were to also note other areas of their child&#8217;s behavior besides sleep using a commonly used method in diagnosing ADD/ADHD. The results of this research strike a powerful blow for common sense. It can be summarized as follows:</p>
<p>• Most parents seriously overestimate the time that their children actually rest. The time when they are trying to fall alseep or are just laying there are not taken into consideration.<br /> Those with an average nightly sleep of less than 7.7 hours (as measured by the actigraphs) scored significantly higher in tests measuring hyperactivity and impulsivity. Being labeled ADD/ADHD is the more likely scenario.</p>
<p> For the first time ever a study has supported what parents have known for years: Sleep deprivation leads to bad behavior! If this continues over a few weeks a trend gets established and Johnny is at serious risk of being labeled as ADD/ADHD!</p>
<p> Dr. Juulia Paavonen who was in charge of the study lays her finger securely on both this problem and its solution: “We were able to show that short sleep duration and sleeping difficulties are related to behavioral <a href="http://addadhdhelp.com/ADHD_Test.html">symptoms of ADHD</a>. It turns out that some of the symptoms displayed through behavior could be avoided if the child was sleeping appropriate lengths of time on a consistent basis. An increase in concentration and the ability to react calmly in situations has been seen in just getting a half hour more of sleep each night.&#8221;</p>
<p> All of the above should make it clear that one of the first things any concerned parent should do before submitting a child for a possible <a href="http://AddAdhdHelp.com">ADD/ADHD</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJYVHQAG8eM">diagnosis</a> is to make sure that the child gets enough sleep. It is difficult to pin an exact figure on ‘enough’ as the amount of sleep needed for optimum performance will differ from person to person. It is likely that your child will need more sleep than this, but it is unlikely that he or she will need less.</p>
<p> Helping children to ‘make the numbers’ when it comes to sleep can be very difficult but it is a discipline that you will have to learn. A bit of planning and the establishment of a firm bedtime routine could help you in this regard. The results of experiencing good behavior is a large payoff. Just by looking closer at the child&#8217;s sleeping patterns could be the one saving grace from the huge changes an ADD/ADHD diagnosis brings into the family&#8217;s life. Before jumping to the conclusion that the child is really ADD/ADHD when they are acting impulsivly or very hyper try getting a good night&#8217;s sleep!</p>
